Pip the Lingonberry

Learn languages with Pip

Your friendly lingonberry guide to a language you actually use.

Translate a paragraph, take a dictation, have a conversation, fill in the missing words, arrange a word bank, or read a passage and answer questions on it. Every exercise is written for your level, and every answer comes back with feedback that explains itself — not just a score.

Many ways to practise

Most apps test recognition. Lingoberry asks you to produce the language — write it, reconstruct it, or speak it. Some exercises go deep with feedback; others are quick drills for when you have five minutes.

💬

Conversation

Pick a scenario and talk it through with Pip in character — a market stall, a hotel check-in, a neighbour's doorstep. Real back-and-forth, then a full breakdown of what you said and how to say it better.

📝

Translation

Pip writes a short paragraph on a topic you choose and you translate it. You get back a corrected version, a breakdown of grammar and word choice, and a note on whether it sounds natural to a native speaker.

📖

Reading

A passage at your level followed by comprehension questions — the exercise that shows whether you understood the text or just recognised the words.

🎧

Dictation

Listen to a sentence and type what you hear. Scored word by word, so you can see exactly where your ear slipped — the endings, the articles, the words that run together in speech.

✏️

Fill in the blank

A sentence with words removed, and a hint of the base form when you need one. Good for drilling the endings a language expects you to get right without thinking.

🧩

Word Bank

Reconstruct a translation by tapping word chips into the right order. No typing required — just recognition and word order. The bank may include extra distractor words to keep you honest.

See it in action

Pip writes a paragraph on any topic you choose. You translate it. The feedback breaks down grammar, word choice, and naturalness — not just a score.

How a session goes

Three steps, about ten minutes.

1
🎯

Pick your level and topic

Choose an exercise type, set the difficulty from A1 to C2, and name a topic if you have one in mind.

2
✍️

Do the exercise

Write it, say it, or type what you hear. Exercises are generated fresh each time, so you can't memorise your way through them.

3
📈

Read the feedback

Corrections with reasons, not a bare score. Your streak and progress build up as you go, and First Steps lessons are there if you're starting from scratch.

Why learn with Pip?

🌍

Languages we can vouch for

We offer a short list of language pairs rather than every combination we could technically generate. Each one has a voice good enough to listen to and output we can actually check.

🧠

Real context

Whole paragraphs and passages, not isolated sentences — the way language actually arrives.

Feedback that explains itself

Not just right or wrong. Why the ending changed, why that word sounds stiff, and what a native speaker would have written instead.

🎚️

Your level, per language

Content pitched to CEFR standards from A1 to C2. Learning two languages at different levels? Each one keeps its own.

What you can learn

Pick a language to learn and the language you'd like it explained in. You can keep several going at once and switch between them whenever you like.
